Walking on winter's wild side

Hima Hammana is one of Lebanon's richest natural classrooms, where every trail, rock, and tree tells a story millions of years in the making. The Hima shelters an impressive diversity of trees including cedars and oaks, a vivid richness of wildflowers, and the spectacular sight of waterfalls in spring. Rare and endemic plant species, some of them endangered, carpet the hillsides alongside foxes, wild boars, and hundreds of resident and migratory bird species.

Beneath the surface, the story grows even deeper. Hammana is globally significant for paleontology, with its Lower Cretaceous amber outcrops yielding newly discovered genera and species, proving that ancient insect life was as diverse 120 million years ago as it is today. Fossil walks and amber discovery sessions are among the most fascinating activities the Hima offers.

Educational visits, school programs, university research trips, and guided nature walks are all organized within the Hima, turning every visit into a discovery, and every visitor into a guardian of this irreplaceable natural heritage.

"A peaceful yet exhilarating way to experience Lebanon's mountains in their most serene season."
